Normally, we assume, Civil Servants would receive pey for the whole time they were under detention but we should have a ruling from the Colonial Office regarding the position of Chinese ex- employees imprisoned as Volunteers but subsequently released.

We suggest they might receive their Volunteer pey up to the time of release end receive six months notice (as ex-Government employees) from that date plus the usual notice period.

We shell be grateful if you ask the Colonial Office to telegraph their ruling.
